Fashion and beauty go hand in hand. When you look good, you feel good too. Performed with the right technique under skilled hands, aesthetic injectables can boost one’s confidence by leaps and bounds. If you’re considering such procedures, here are 3 different types of treatments provided by Dr.Ko Clinics and the information you need:
What is fillers?
Fillers used by most aesthetic doctors are usually made up of hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring molecule in animals and human.
Is it painful?
Depending on patient’s threshold of pain, but on a usual basis, it is pretty bearable as only small gauged needle is used.
Is the result permanent?
Being a natural substance, it breaks down over time and is absorbed by the body (usually 9-12 months), thus requiring a repeat of the procedure. There are FDA-approved dermal filler made of non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA), such as Restylane and Juvederm. They are temporary and usually last an average of 3-6 months.
What is the difference between temporary dermal fillers and permanent dermal fillers?
Permanent dermal fillers are a bit more worrisome. In present, there are 2 materials available as permanent dermal fillers: Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and Polyacrylamide Gel (PAAG). PAAG is not approved by the FDA. The only brand of PMMA that’s FDA approved is Artefill. Artefill’s predecessor, Artecoll, has been available outside of the United States since 1994. However, only Artefill has been FDA approved. As anything done permanently, one cannot simply wait for it to biodegrade as it won’t. As the person ages, the alteration achieved by the substance may look a bit odd.
How much does it cost?
Prices start from RM1800 per cc and differs according to brand of fillers used.
2) Botulinum toxin aka Botox
What is botulinum toxin?
It is a type of drug made from neurotoxin containing botulinum toxin type A, human albumin and sodium chloride.
How does it work?
Botulinum toxin blocks nerve activity in the muscles, causing a temporary reduction in muscle activity. In other words, it causes temporary paralysation in your injected area. Botox can be used to reduce wrinkles and also jaw reduction. For wrinkles, it reduces the appearance of lines resulting in a more youthful look. As for jaw reduction, it can give the perception of a slimmer face.
When will the result show?
Botulinum toxin takes effect 72 hours after the treatment, and optimum result can be seen 1 week after.
How long does it last?
It differs in every individual as different patient will react differently to it. On average, it can last up to 3 months or more.
Is it dangerous? What are the side effects?
One of the risks of botulinum toxin is allergic reaction to certain preservatives and ingredients used. Another danger includes overdoing which might result in drooping. Over usage may result in an unnatural look.
Is it painful?
The needles used for botox injections are very small hence the pain is definitely bearable. An ice pack or numbing cream can be used to reduce any sensation of pain.
How much does it cost?
The price differs according to face parts:
Glabella – RM300 onwards
Crows Feet – RM400 onwards
Forehead – RM600 onwards
Bunny Lines – RM300 onward
Brow Lift – RM300 onwards
Mental – RM300 onwards
Smiling face – RM400 onwards
Jaw reduction- RM1800 onwards
3) PDO Threadlift
What is PDO threadlift and how does it work?
It uses PDO (polydioxanone) thread, a type of suture material commonly used in cardiovascular surgeries. PDO stimulates the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid, thus able to lift the skin to a more youthful and favourable position. The threads are absorbable and therefore will be fully absorbed in 4-6 months, leaving nothing behind but the lifted skin structure which continues to hold for another 12-24 months.
What is PDO threadlift and how does it work?
The steps in a thread lift procedure are relatively uncomplicated. First, your doctor will assess the areas to be treated and determine the direction of the lift required. Numbing cream is applied or sometimes local anaesthetic is injected into the area of treatment. The threads are then embedded right under the skin with a long and fine needle. After pulling the needle out, the thread remains. No incision or suturing is required in this procedure.
